I have a dining room that is never used therefore it became a catch all. Carefully lift up the loose veneer and use a putty knife to scrape away as much loose dried glue as possible. Use a vacuum to remove dust dirt and small pieces of particle board. Before you apply the paint prepare the particle board to accept the new finish or flaking will occur.

Diluted bleach or vinegar will help remove smells and stains. Add visual interest to ordinary particle board flooring and protect it from wear and rot by refinishing it with the right paint. Wood filler will not adhere to dirt. Particle board is ill suited for paint adhesion unless you first treat it with a particular type of primer.
