Removing Concrete Floor Anchors

The role of concrete anchor bolts consists of creating a permanent or at the very least semi permanent bond between the structure and concrete component. Using a cutoff saw or grinding wheel cut the wedge anchor off at the surface of the concrete. Some concrete anchors such as the tapcon concrete screws can be removed easily by turning them counterclockwise. Any protruding metal may be pounded into the concrete using a heavy hammer.

Step 3 use a bolt extractor on a stubborn bolt. A steel anchor is stubborn and its removal will usually cause damage to the concrete floor. Female concrete anchors are generally simpler to remove. If the anchors are of the screw in type place a screwdriver bit into the drill position the bit into the head of the anchor and turn the fastener loose in a counterclockwise direction.

Remove the anchor bolt from the concrete by turning the bolt counterclockwise with the socket. Make sure it s tight and flush with the bolt s upper side. The more thorough the installation job the harder it will be to dislodge the anchor bolt from its position. To be removed wedge anchors can be sawed off with a hacksaw or cutoff wheel at the surface of the base material.

Before installing the wedge anchor drill the hole two times the length of the wedge anchor being installed. If the bolt is rusted in place spray it with a penetrating lubricant and allow the lubricant to soak in according to manufacturer s instructions before removing.
